THE NEW ZEALAND PUNCH.
AMUSING .POLITICAL CAIITOOKS. [special telegram.] Wellington, Friday. The third number of Punch was issued this morning. There are two cartoons excellently got vp — one, representing "Whitakcr as a Peri standing disconsolately outside the Gate of Paradise, "the rejected of Eden," and the other Hobbs as a member of the genus rodens, caught in a trap. There are also a number of capital tvood-cutsj and the reading matter is very amusing. Ono of the leading features is the obituary of eminent persons in : rerse, from which' we; quote the following : — Edward Graham McMinn, Obiit a? Waipa, September 11, 1879. McMinn, of Waipa, once the proud elected (Sure never yet was downfall greater seen) ; McMinn, of Waipa, now deposed — rejected, Henceforth, we'll write your ' name E. G. McMinri ! Captain Morris, . Obiit; at, East Coasti September 5, 1879. No more in search of absent voters ; : , About the House or streets you prance, sir — Ea3t Coast preferred the fV Hielan' Chiel," And dropped the faithless Morris dancer, Who, doomed to., separate from gentle Saunders, At least, cap, fl^Tf -renew old terms with Mandere!
