VALEDICTORY.

On the -eve of their departure from Milton, a combined social evening was tendered Mr J- B. Laing and family by Messrs Jaß. Gray and Sons and their employees, in Bt. John's Hall, on Friday night. Mr Alex Gray, on behalf of the firm, presented Mr Lang with a travelling rug and bag and Mrs Lang with an afternoon tea tray. Mr A. Currie, on behalf of the employees, made the presentation to Mr and' Mrs Lang of an afternoon tea service and cosy. Complimentary references were made by both employers and employees to the pleasant associations of the departing guesta with the firm for so many years. Mr Lang, in thanking the donors for their many expressions of good will, wished to emphasise their gratituto for the many marked kindnesses he and his family had received at the hands of the Messrs Gray and Mrs Jas Gray senr. especially during the early days of their residence in Milton. The evening was afterwards devoted to songs and games, and terminated with a danco. At the above function opportunity was also taken to" farewell two other employes of ithe firm-Miss Laura Brown (head dressmaker) and Miss Evelyn Brown, on the eve of their departure for Napier. Both young ladies were the recipients of gifts from the firm, Miss Laura being presented with a " lady's handbag and Miss Evelyn with a silver purse.
