PROPOSED LOCAL HOSPITAL.
BRUCE COUNTY DISCUSSION. At the monthly meeting of the Bruce County :Couneil on Tuesday, the chairman (iCoimcirior T. Scott) and 'Councillors D. 'Boyd and J. Clark were appointed to represent the Bruce County at the meeting to be held at Balclutha shortlytin connection with hospital and charitable aid matters. The chairman said that as far as the hospital proposal was concerned the southern end was the most suitable for the erection of a hospital, -and as far as his ratepayers were concerned they were satislied with the Dunedin Hospital; 'but the members of the various ridings should consult their ratepayers to ascertain their wishes in the matter.
Councillor Driver said that his riding being nearer Dunedin than Balclutha, it would naturally favour the hospital in the larger centre, but he personally had no objection to 'Balclutha taking steps to have its own hospital. It was doubtful if IBalclutha would be justified in the erection of a hospital on the score of expense, t
Councillor Bell said that his dsitrict (Taieri Beach) would probably favour Dunedin.
Councillors Gardyne and 'She'at said that they were not opposed to the erection of a hospital at Balclutha, but they had not ascertained tho, wishes of their ratepayers* 'Councillor Boyd said that there seemed to be no reason why boundaries to suit could not be arranged, even if part of Bruce were excluded.
•Councillor 'Russell said he would like to see a hospital board established at Balclutha, but he did not think it would be of much 'benefit to Bruce.
