BALCLUTHA'S ROLL OF HONOUR.

UNVEILED AT WELCOME-HOME SOCIAL.

A handsome roll of honour board (kauri, faced with walnut) containing the names (as far as could be ascertained) of the •New Zealandcrs who have made the supreme sacrifice in the war has been presented to the Clutlia District Returned 'Soldiers' Association by Private E. F. Allison (a returned' Anzac). This roll of honour was unveiled at the welcome-home social to returned soldiers in the Oddfellows' Hall on Friday night, and contains the following names:—Privates G. It contained some 50 names of men who had gone out to do battle for God, King and country, but avlio would never return to our shores. The speaker then unveiled tlie roll of honour, and while the soldiers on the platform stood to attention the ''Last Post" was sounded.

Trooper Allison (donor of the .board) said., it gave him,great pleasure to ex-press-bis admiration and the admiration of all the returned men for their brave comrades who 'had fallen. ! They also extended their sinccrest "sympathy to the relatives and friends of those who had made the supreme sacrifice.- Although it was the intention of the soldier's to do their utmost for the 'men who ha'd returned and those who would yet return, they would never forget 'their comrades who had .fallen on foreign iields. It was.a. pleasure for him to show, in a slight measure, his feelings by the gift of the roll of honour. If any names were omitted it was purely an oversight, and the names of soldiers would be placed on the board as they were sent to the Soldiers' Association. (Applause.)
