LORD NORTHCLIFFE'S MISSION.

AMERICAN OPINION. Tho 'New York Tribune,' commenting on Lord Northcliffe's arrival, says: For the work which Lord Northcliffe is to do in this country the British Government could not possibly have chosen a better man. He fits the situation. Lord Northcliffe has done more than any other single Englishman perhaps to put England on her feet as a fighting Power. He had the courage to expose inefficiency in office; he took the lead in hammering into the British mind the real meaning of the war. Lord Northcliffe's work in England was practically complete when the Lloyd George Government was established. That Government is doing what two preceding war Governments Sailed to do. The United Kingdom is not in need of the stimulus of Lord NorthclifFe's constructive criticism, and it can spare his great talents for a time; and there is no other field in which those talents can now be employed to so great advantage as in this country, which is struggling as violently as Great Britain had to struggle to prepare for war. We look to Lord Northcliffe for many things which will help to speed up American energy. He has seen Great Britain free herself from tho shackles of red tape and routine officialdom and accomplish startlingly big results in a big way. Our people are eager to do the same. All they want is intelligent leadership. Whatever Lord Northcliffo tells us, we feel he comes as a friend who knows and is keen to put his knowledge at our service. His mission is a splendid exemplification of the "All for one and one for all" policy, which, if faithfully pursued, will soon weld the Allies into an invincible combination.
