Ploughing Bee.

The spirit of lending a willing and helpful hand to a new-oomer isj still evidenced amongst some farmers in Toko* mairo district, acid was exemplified at Oriohton last Thursday, when a ploughing bee was energetically at work on Mr Bonald Paterson's farm (recently pur- , chased from Mr David Bowie, Despite the faot that farmers are busily engaged preparing their own ground, there were 13 teams at work, the implements com" prising 11 double-furrow ploughs, a dig* gar, and a diso plough. Messrs Hewit* Bon Bros, and Jasper Clark supervised the arrangements, and teams were sent by Mrs Halpin, Messrs Jas, Anderson, A. Melville, Jasper Clark, R. Hewitson, D. Grant, Howie Bros., W. Allison, A, Low* ery, T. Lowery, P. Hanley, Thos. Scott, and N. Adam. About 30 acres were ploughed, and grateful recognition of the spontaneous and kindly assistance thus him was fittingly acknowledged by Mr Paterson. The catering arrange* mentfl were capably carried out by Mr James Anderson (Milton), Messrs Tubman Bros, who were unable to participate in the ploughing bee, sent a team on Saturday for a day's discing.
