(Prom Clutha Leader. \ A record price for hoggets was made at the Balclutha Corporation yards on Friday, when the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, sold on account of Mr Adam King (Stoney Creek) a pen of ewe hoggets at 435; also a pen of mixed-sex hoggets - at 39s 3d.' At a special meeting of the Balclutha Borough Council on Friday evening a resolution was carried con--1 'firming the motion passed, as a special order in regard to closing Hasborough 'Road, fronting the old show ground, as resolved at a special .meeting in August, bara McLaren (Balclutha The premises occupied by Mrs Patterson—the Railway Boarding-house, Balclutha—w r ere raided on Friday evening by Constables Almond (Balclutha), Martin (Kaitangata), Fox (Milton) and Hayward (Owaka), and a considerable quantity of liquor was seized, being discovered in varipus places , throughout the building. . The death occurred at Beahar on Saturday of Miss Daisy Parks, the only daughter of Mr and' Mrs Francis Parks. .. It is announced in the Gazette 'that Captain Stanley Rice, of the 14th (South Otago) Regiment, is struck off the strength of the Expeditionary, - Force, and is absorbed into the estab^ • lishment with his original rank and !- seriority therein; that Lieutenant Rob- ' ert Prain Boyne is appointed lieutenant in the 14th (South Otago) Hegir ment; and that James Lenister Passmore is appointed- second lieutenant, on probation, of the Motor Service l Corps (Otiigo section). : A Press Association message from « Auckland' states that 071 sick and wounded soldiers, comprising 15 officers "'and; 356 .other'ranks and six nurses, arrived on/Sunday.
