MRS MARGARET JOHNSTON.

We regret to record the death of another of the early settlers of this district, in the person of Mrs Margaret Johnston, which occurred at her residence, North Balclutha, 011 Thursday night, at the advanced age of 88 years. The deceased lady resided for .many years ,in the 'Puerua district, where her husband, who predeceased her several years 'ago, was engaged", in farming operations. She was of an exceedingly kind and generous disposition, which wsa proverbial ,of the early pioneers, and travellers were always treated with the utmost hospitality. Three daughters and two' sons are left to mourn- their loss, viz., Mrs A. Martin (Mosgiel), Mrs McLaren, and Miss Barbara Johnston ('Balclutha), and Alexlander (Cromwell) and Thomas (Dunedin). The funeral took place at the ■Rom ah apa cemetery yesterday afternoon. One son, James, died about five weeks ago.
