VIGILANTES AND I.W.W.
3—7—77. +
Montana messages to Vancouver indicate that the lynching of Frank Little, the I.W.W. leader, was due to the wrath of the citizens at tho I.W.W. operations in connection with the strike. Following the identification of Little's body, the Butte members of the I.W.W. telegraphed appeals for aid to William Haywood (president of the organisation), and other officials. It was said that the message was immediately received from Haywood saying that the resources of the I.W.W. organisation would be employed to bring the lynchers to justice. It was half-past three when the six men, after searching the lodging-house, found Little, and carried him into the waiting automobile. The body was discovered by the police at 8 o'clock. The card on the body bore the figures, 3 7 —77, the old sign of the Vigilantes in Montana.
