THE MILTON BRASS BAND.
(To The Editor.)
S ni) _\Vo notice ia the Herald of Thursday last that you have boon n quested by some on.', who, like "Rip Van Winkle," bus cvidt'ii ly just wakened up after s long sleep, and who lu* slumbered so long that ho doesn't know of ihe Milton Brass Band, or at best, has but a, li'izy dream like a memory of such an institution. That sleep has apparonh ly misled him in his efforts to clear the minds of the Wilton people, Didn't you smile, you scoros ot old members of tho band, when this " Solomon " imparted to you tho inform'l'ion that tho Milton Brass Band was a "Now Organisation." We are then informed by him, that a> prosont. there is a Battalion Band of "27 members, (Why does ho not rovorso ihu figures and say 72?) Tins Band, if it does exist, is csrtainly a new organisation, and some day may bo ablo to start on a world tour like tho Besses o' th' Barn, but the Milton Brass Band caunot lend their instruments to them to enubio them to reach this high level, Tho last sentence oi tho paragraph is a correct statement of the facts, or nearly so, as we are in possession of other facts '.hat could be add;d to this which would make it even more correct, bu; u will do lo suit outpurpose at present, " Tho Milton Brass " Bind instruments are hold iu trust by " trustees, and shouid any body by pro- " posing tj start anothor band think they " would bo entitled to tho uso of, the " instruments, they would bo under a " misapprehension." This states our case porfoctly clearly to ovcrybody except your "Rip Van Winkle." Wo publicly ask anyono who thinks otherwise to cotuo along with an nc ion in the civil court to recover the instruments from tho members of that hoary-headed gaoisation, tho Miiton Brass Band, Wo tro pining to discern whore thoy cjmo in and also tho names of the gentlemen who a.ro acting as trustees for the Batta* lion Band and their proper;y. Wo have no objections tj a'lottnr bind b,:ing formed in tho town. Opposition is good in its way, but wo aro afraid their progress will be slow unless thuvr 0,0. is in a position to equip them with a new, coinploto set of instruments. One word more and wo are done. Wo know thit s u'ements have been mad ; to several gentlemen of 'ho town as correct, that have not an atom cf truth m ihem. We, as the co'umt'.tuc of the Milton Bras?. Band, are jirepired at any moment to prove this, but would prefer to wait until we are invited tj the civil court. —We aro, etc The Memueus ot-' Committee For the Milion Brass Band, A, Littiejohn, Hon. See.
