Social and Presentation
TO MR T. CASSERLY, CLARKSVILLE, (From a Correspondent.) On Friday oveujng last Mr T. Caseerly was entertained at a social gathering held at Mr John Hanley's residence, Olarksville. As Mr Casserly has decided to leave this district, his many friends and acquaintances thought it fit and proper to make some small recognition of his many kiod aud neighbourly actions. About '6O pooplo had gathered up for the occasion, and Mr John A. Duthio, of Milton, was voted to the chair, and briefly placed before the audioaco the objoct of the meeting. Alter proposing the " Health of the King," which was duly honored, Mr Duthio referred in eulogistic forms to the many good and kindly qualities of their- guest. He had known Mr Casserly from childbood, aud had met him in '• fair weather and foul"; ho had met him in business matters on many ocsissions, and always found him a man of the highest principle, and one win was strictly straightforward in all hia dealings. Mr John C, moron also spoke of Mr Casserly's good qualities as a neighbour, and regretted very much his departure from the district, and hoped prosperity and goodhsalth would always bo his. Mr Wm. M'Loan, in a few well chosen words, in which thore was a breeze of humour, also referred to " Tom's " genial and good-natured spirit, and eaid he was Bure Mr Casserly would succeed wherever he went.
At this stage the health of the guest was drunk, and Mr Duthio then intima ted that he had been asked to make Mr Casserly a presentation as a token of the esteem in which he was held, He had much pleasure in asking Mr Casserly ;, to accept a case of silver-mounted pipes, a silver match box and a tobaooo pouch, and hoped he would be long spared to enjoy them. Mr Casserly, on responding, said ho bad quite been taken by surpriso and felt deeply moved by the many kind remarks which had been expressed concerning him. He was very sorry to bo leaving the district, "where he bad always received such kind consideration from his neighbours, and thanked them piucerely for their presents and good feeling. During the evening songs and recita« tions were contributed by Miss Boyle and MissHanley, also Messrs J. Parlane, J. Marr. W. M'Loan, T, M'Vickor, R. Kerr, W. Clifford, J. Davidson, J. Wisely, T. Casserly and P. Kcppol. A duet by Mis 3 Boylo and Mr Parlane, with violin accompaniment by Mr P. Keppel, was much appreciated. Supper was then handed round, which was done ample justice to, and Mr Duthie at this stage wished to tako the opportunity of thanking Mr and Mrs Hanley and family tor the hospitality that had been extended to them all, and for preparing the room in such an attractive manner for tho occasion. The evening throughout was ono of tho most sociable and er.joyablo of its kind that has been spent iu the district for some time. The health of Chairman was then honored in the usual manner, and after singing' •' He's a jolly good fellow," tho gaihf-ring dispersed all well satisfied with the pleasant evening spont,
