A COSTLY GOOSEBERRY BUSH.

On tho boundary line of two farms in Austria there is a large gooseberry bush, from which the two farmers have for years gathered the product. "What grows on my side is mine, and you may have the rest," said the agreement. Three years ago the neighbors had a misunderstanding, and this came to a climax when the gooseberries became ripe. A law suit followed, and appeals were made to higher judicial bodies. The decision has just been recorded. This gave to both parties the right to pick the berries which grew on their side of the line —just as it was originally—and denies the right to destroy the bush to both contestants. The costs were charged half to each contestant. Each farmer had to pay 225 kronen. The yearly yield of the bush will bring half a kroner, and the judge told the fighting farmers —"With good luck it will take you only 800 years to make the bush pay. Take good care of it."

THE MAD KING OF BAVARIA

The mad King Otto of Bavaria completed his sixtieth year on Monday at Fuerstenried Palace, where he has been incarcerated for thirty years. His health continues perfect, while there is no change as to his mental condition. He oats, drinks and sleeps mechanically, preserving a total silence, which is so wearing to the attendants nerves that the entourage is frequently changed, Some slight attempt is made at Court etiquette, but the King notices nothing. He takes his meals with a doctor and three keepers dressed in the uniform .of an officer. Beyond the annual visit from the Regent's representative the King has been seen by no one for years.
