BRITAIN'S RECORD CRUISER.
11.M.5. INDOMITABLE'S SPEED OF 28 KNOTS. All battleship and cruiser records have been beaten by the new British nrniored cruiser Indomitable. It is reported that she has obtained a speed of 28 knots on the measured mil© on the Clyde, and as easily having maintained a speed of 26i knotß during continuous steaming in her trials, which are now in progress. The .Indomitable was built by the Fairfield Company at Govan, and is to all old armored cruisers what the Dreadnought is to all other battleships. A speed of 25 "knots was required by the contract conditions, but it has been understood from the first that the Admiralty expected 26 or 27 knots of her. This expectation has now seemingly been fulfilled. She has turbine engines of the Parsons type, and carries eight 12in guns, so arranged that all can fire on either side. The armor is 7in to Bin thick. She is one of three sister ships, the others being the Invincible and Inflexible.
