The Hocken Fund.
AN APPEAL TO THE PEOPLE OF TOKOMAIRIRQ.
We have decided to make ari appeal to the people of Bruce for subscriptions towards furnishing the "housing" room for the valuable Literary and Art collection which Dr Hocken has decided, to present to the public. As a result of the efforts of the Otago Daily Times the Dunedin people have made a handsome response, already to the tune of nearly £2OOO, and there is more to follow. The "housing" is assured, and the gift will remain in Dunedin. The Evening Star has taken in hand to raise £I,OOO for furnishing. Dunedin has done its duty fairly well, and wo have decided to comply with an expressed wish and assist the Star fund for furnishing. It is our wish, and the wish of those with whom we are working, that the Hocken collection should be in connection with the Early Settlers' building. Wo have given the matter full consideration, and havo decided to make an appeal to the gemerosity and patriotism of the people of this district. We do not want much from each. "Many mickles make a muckle," and the smallest contribution will be welcome. We endorse the appeal as worthy of the support of the early settlers of Tokomairiro. We await the response with confidence. Subscriptions from 1,/- upwards will be thankfully received,
