• (From Our Qwn Correspondent; ) A sad fatal accident occurred at Kaitangata at about 10.30 a^m. on Saturday to a young lad named Henry Cantrick, who was employed by-Mr J.-Jarvie, butcher, as a rider-out, and when at Mr Waters' .residence, adjoining the Kaitangata coal mine, the horse reared and threw the lad. His feet became stuck in the stirrups, and the horse^ galloped to the railway crossing, dragging the boy head downwards on the ground. The lad became .freed at the crossing ; assistance was quickly, forthcoming, and he was taken to the residence of Mr Pilling, where he died in a few minutels. ; The unfortunate lad had sent a. telegram that same morning saying that he was going to town in the afternoon to pay a visit to some relatives. The sad event caused quite' a gloom here for New Year's Eve.
