DUNE DIN HORSE SALE YARDS.

.Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows :— Saturday being a race day, our weekly sale commenced at 9.30 o'clock. There was a f.ir entry of light harness horses, and a first-rate attendance of the public. Business was very brisk, and almost every horse entered for sale changed hands at excellent values. A few draughts, were i offered, amongst them the Clydesdale entire horse Etfrick Shepherd. This fine sire was purchased at a good figure by Mr John Drummond, of West Taieri. Two good spring-van horses were sold at £44- and £38 lOsjrespectively, and one good four-year-old draught geldiDg— a " uuggety ' horße — at £52 10s. In strong harness horses the followiDg were the principal transactions: — First-clisa dog-carb horse, £32 ; four-year-old chestnut mare, £31 ; bay gelding, aged, £26 10a ; brown geldiug, six years, £28 ; bay mare, eight years, £26 ; chesbuu t gelding, six years, £26 10s. Most of tbeae horses were purcUased for town work. Of lighter class horses about a dozen were aold ab from £13 to £20, and a ounibsr of ancient animals of no class ab all were sold ab from £4 to £9 15a. The same firm report they held a special sale of Clydesdales on Friday, and taken as a whole, it was highly successful, and we believe both buyers and sellers were alike satisfied with the result. The Melbourne horses brought over by Mr Lawrence were of exceptional merit, and he has earned a reputation for himself in this market which should stand him in good stead in days to come should he revisit it. The two shipments he has already brought across to this , centre have given buyers universal satisfaction. We quote as^ follows : — Superior . young draught geldings £54 to £65, ! extra good, prize horses, £66 to £80, medium draught mares and geldings , £40 to £50 ; aged do £25 to £38, upstanding carriage horses £30 to £40, well-matched i carriage pairs £80 to £100, strong spring- ! ran horses £30 to £38, milk- cart and batchers' order-cart horses £20 to £28, tram i horses £16 to £30, light hacks £10 to £18, extra good hacks £20 to £30, weedy and aged hacks and harness horses £4 to £8.
