AN EXPLANATION.
To the Editor. Sib, — Through the medium of your valuable columns, and with your kind permission, I would like to offer a word of explanation to the Liberals of Bruce. Iti connection with my candidature for this electorate, I find that the word " Independent" in conjunction with Liberal, under which "ticket" 1 announced myself, is being grossly misconstrued. By some it is interpreted aa simply covering a Conservative indisguise. To me the word " Independent " means nothing more than a conscience clause. I am an "out and out" Liberal, have been one all my days, and intend to remain one. However, in order that my fellow electors should ba assured on this important point and to show my sincerity iv the matter, I am prepared to give a pledge that in the event of my being returned, I will support the present Government ; and if the time should come when I could not conscientiously follow it, I am prepared before supporting a no-confidence motion to place myself in the hands of the electors. — I am, &c, Peter M'Skimming.
