QJb .Grant^Starter :. Mr~J r Paul. ilie^ annual sports meetlog of the above Ssbl«ty"wi" i fiela^Sn iffie^ftTmeM' "CIuTT Ground on Monday. The weather was about as bad as It possibly conld^be, but In spite of this the people of Milton and distriot turned out about 1000 strong, "and thns praotloally assured the suooess of the gathering. A fair proportion of the spectators* were ladies. The gate money amounted to £32 13s. The various events were well contested and were watched with keen interest. Tliere were several exciting finishes, notably in the Oaledonian Handioap, when Jas^omber and Gordon fought ouV^iii^i^nwe. The one mile bioyole rao^'wiiv^.won rather easily by M"^Ui«ra^^The mile walk was an unsatisfaotoryTaoe. and we think the committee were jartifiad in reducing the priza money. Che Caledouian-G*elio Handioap was won easily by James Comber, the limit man, who led all the way. the two mile bicycle raoe went to M< William who won it from soratoh with M'Leod seoond. None of the others had very mnoh s»y in this event. In the Gaelio handioap Dey (soratob) ran Hynes the wlnnsr very, dose and was a good seoond, while Comber (third) was not far away. In the three mile bioyole raoe all the competitors dropped out after the first few laps except Pyfe (limit) and Broome who were half a lap in front of M'William and M'Leod when the bell rang for the laefc round. Broome then forged ahead, and won by a few yards, Fyfe being aecond. In the half mile, D. Wilson with 25 yards, won as he liked and came in with abont ten yardß to spare, while a similar distance separated seoond and third men. As the conditions | were unsuitable for getting off the Sailor's Hornpipe and Irish Jig competitions, these were decided at the concert held in the evening. The office-bearers all worked hard to make the sports a success, and it would be invidious to single out any one for special mention. The Milton Brass Band under Mr KM Brookes played a number of et joy able selections during the afternoon and the muaio of the pipers was aIBO muoh appreciated.
