"SEEING -SNAKES."
An inquiring oculist has now discovered jusl why it is that drunkards, and especially-"people suffering from delirium tremens, "see snakes." Hitherto it has been supposed that the " snakes " which men reported having seen in their alcoholic delirium .were simply creatures qt the imagination. Now we are told that these hallucinations have an actual basis. This exists in certain, veins of the eye, which become filled with dark, pulsating blood as a result of alcoholism, mak--1 ing them resemble snakes in appearance and motion. Statistics on this collected by the oculist show i that 95 per cent, of the visual hallu--1 cinations experienced in delirium ; tremens consists of serpents in one form or another.
