.«, ■■. ■: • The committee of the above met on Monday evening in the Athenaeum, and there were present ; Messrß J. W. Petrie (chairman), R. Murray, A. Littlejohn, A. Wilson, J. Nekon, F. M'Leod, and W. Moore (hon. aec.) The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman read the following report, which will be submitted to the annual meeting of householders on Monday night : Your outgoing Committee beg to anbmit the following report for the year :— Thirteen meetings ha?e been held during the year, with the attendance as follows :— Moore 13, Murray 13, Taylor 12, Nelson 12, M'Leod 12. Potrie 11, Wilson 10, Gray 9, Littlejohn 9. The sohool staff remains the same as when your Committee took office, with the exception that Miss L. O. Taylor, who has finished nor apprenticeship and gone to the Training College, has been suooeeded by Mlbb Dma Wilson, a new appointment by the Board. All the Departments of the sohool have been carried on for the year with the uaual degree of success. The display of drawing aod painting, of needlework, anc* of Kindorarten work at the fiohool breakup retieotea the highest credit on Miss M'Laren and the lady teaohere. Mr Aroher, as usual, had the workshop fall of articles of woodwork made by the boys daring the winter months, showing afe the same tune the diligence of the boys, and hia own skill and unwearied services aa instructor. The Rector's olaaß in Agricultural Chemistry got through a muoh larger amount of work than usual in the analyse of Artificial Manures, ohiefly on account of the very competent help given by the senior members of tbe class. Master James Milne Adam was dux for tho year, and reo^ivod the gold medal Vbry kindly presented by Mr Maopheraon, ohairmau of the Bruoo County Council. The eahool is to be congratulated on the faot that Maßter John Reid topped the Senior Scholarship list for the year, and Miss L. 0. Taylor not only passed her last year's pupilteachorship examination with very great credit, but also passed the Matrioulation and D. Examination for teacherß. MiBB Agnes Anderson, who haß now reoeived an appointment as pupil teacher at Kaitangata, also passed the Matrioulation Examination, and Mr George Turner the D. Examination for teachera. The average attendance for the year has been as follows :— Quarters, April to July 1897 289, July to Ootober 282, October to December 281, February to April, 1898, 275. In Ootober last the school passed a good examination, and Mr Reid and his staff are to be congratulated on the efficiency and good attainments shown in all branches of aohool work. The physioal department of the sohool work has been well maintained during the year. The Sohool Cadet Corps, with a roll number of 54, has been regalarly drilled throughout too year, and is in a sound financial position. The company was several times complimented by Colonel Webb on his inspection viaitß during the year. The annual Government grant of £20 was recently paid into the credit of the company. In the ordinary sports of the playground the school took a prominent position during the year, and the children are ro be congratulated on the socoess achieved in their competitions of cricket, football, and rounders with other schools. Mr Hanna's olasses for gymnastio instruction were held regularly every month, bnt the attendance (averaging abeut 45 boys and girls) waa somewhat poor. It is a great pity the great benefits derived by thoße who attend these classes regularly are not taken advantage of by a greater number who might easily attend for an hour once a month. The gymnastio classes are now held in the school play-shed, whioh, as the result of a very sucoesßful Kinderapiei held at the end of the year, ia now fully furnished with gymnastio apparatus. Your Committee commenced the year with a credit balance of Us lid, and, as shown by the balance sheet, which has been duly audited, finish with a credit balance of £17 11b sd. For this result the Committee are indebted to tbe teachers and children for the very successful Kinderspiel produced before the break-up, which added about £17 to the fnnds. Mr Nelson moved, and Mr Littlejobn seconded, that the report be approved. — Carried. The following tenders for coal supply for the enauing year were opened : John Wight, lla lOd ; N. Hardwick, 9a lid 3 W. H. Groves, 9a lid ; A. Young, 10a 6d; — Mr Nelson moved, and Mr M'Leod seconded, that W. H. Groves' tender be accepted. — Carried. Mr Petrie moved, and Mr Murray seconded—" That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the secretary for his services." — Carried. On the motion of Mr M'Leod, seconded by Mr Littlejohn, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the chairman for the able manner in which he had carried out his duties. Messrs Moore and Petrie suitably responded to the motions in which their services were eulogised. This concluded the business, and the meeting terminated.
