The Chrietchurch Farmers' Cooperative Society have imported a Tam worth boar and two sows, a breed of pigs never before brought to New Zealand.— An old laky named Mrs George Falconer committed suicide by hanging herself at Ngapara on Monday. — A man named Brennan died from strychnine near Gisborne on Monday. — A new insect pest has appeared on the Japanese plum trees at Auckland, and also at Cbristchurch. It proves to be the black peach aphis, a pest much dreaded by peach growers in Australia and elsewhere. — Tbe Pahiatua bridge, over the Tiraumea river, was opened by the Premier on Tuaeday. There was a very large as semblage and the ceremony passed off very successfully —The Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Show, held this week, was not so well attended as usual. Entries showed a falling off but quality was well represented.— A man named Tall died at Invercargill on Tuesday from tbe effects of injuries received on the steamer Taieri. — The Appeal Court reserved judgment in the case dealing with the refusal of wholesale licenses in the Clutha district.—The dry weather is doing considerable injury to the crops in Southland. — His Excellency the Governor and suite have left Wellington for Chrietchurch, to be present at the racing and show carnival next week.
