MILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Milton Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present — The Mayor, and Crs. vSproaen, Lockhart, Taylor, Grant, Walker, King, Sc.ualan, and Duthie.
Mr P. Hyues wrote complaining of the damage recently (lono to fences round that part of the Corporation reserve leased to him at tho lato sale. Tho fouccs had been so damagod by the present holder pulliug out tho wires that it would cost fully £7 or jb'S to put them into repair. He trusted that tho Council would take stepa to prevent further damage, and make the present bolder responsible for repairing them.
After some discussion, Cr Grant moved, "That a subcommittee, consisting of tho Mayor, Crs Taylor, Soanlan, and the mover be appointed to inspect the fences and report at next meeting of the Council." Seconded by Cr Taylor, and carried. Permission was granted to Mr C. King to open up the drain across Sponserstrcet, in front of his property, for the purpose of enlarging the same.
Thu usu.il fee of £2 2i was voted to Constable King for services rendered us Clerk to the Licensing Committee.

Tho Committee appointed to examine all books, documeuts, &c, iv possession of tho Council, and report upon back rent?, unpaid rates, &c, and generally upon tho financial state of the Borough, verbally, through Cr Sproscn, reported that they found everything goncrally satisfactory, but were sorry to say that there were a good few defaulters on tho book.", and they trustol that the memb rs of the Council would decide to take steps to considerably rcduco the number. With th*t object in view, Cr Sprosen moved, " That the Clerk prepare a defaulters' list, to bo laid on thu table at next meeting." Seconded by Cr Grant, and carried. The water supply question was next considered, and as it had been found that the source of supply could not be obtained from Mr M'Gill without guaranteeing him a certain pressure, for that reason, and also on account of the expense, it was decided to abandon the idea altogether. Cr Grant moved, "That the dayman be instructed to spread metal from Alfredstreet southward to High-street." Seconded by Cr Walker, and carried. Cr Duthie moved, Cr Lockhart seconded, ami it was carried, "That the dayman procure a few loads of gravel from the Woolshed to spread on footpaths where required.
