THE TOAST OF THE QUEEN.

EXTRAORDINARY SCENE. The Daily Telegraph, in an account of the proceedings at a recent dinner of the London Foremen Tailors' Mutual Association, states that as soon as the tables had been cleared the Chairman proposed " the health of Her Majesty," saying that he was sure that in an assemblage of loyal Englishmen a toast to the Sovereign of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland would evoke sincere enthusiasm. The sentiment was received with acclamation, the toast being drunk upstanding by all the company except two. When the "National Anthem " began the men in question were observed to be stili sitting. Shouts of " Stand up " were raised, but the individuals in question took no notice. The chairman emphasised the request, but this too was disregarded. O bserving this conduct, the company sbowed their annoyance by pelting them with a shower of oranges, apples, and other fruits, some of the missies being thrown with considerable violence and singularly accurate aim. The assemblage immediately raised shouts of " Turn them out." In an instant half a dozen people, old and young, rushed towards the offending pair. One allowed himself to be expelled without much ado, but the other was not so easily overawed. Seizing a champagne bottle, he struck out wildly with it right and left. However, by a dexterous movement he was quickly disarmed, and in a moment was ejected, struggling and ejaculating amid tremendous cheering on the part of the onlookers. The " incident ' over, the confusion soon subsided ; and on the resumption of the proceedings, the remaining loyal and patriotic toasts elicited unbounded enthusiasm.
