The Municipal Corporations Act of New South Wales contains provisions prohibiting Mayors and Councillors from being concerned in contracts with Councils, similar to those in the New Zealand Act, and also provides for the recovery of penalties not exceeding £100 or less than £50 for any offence against that portion of j the Act. An information under the Act was recently laid against the Mayor of Wentworth, and the Magistrates inflicted a fine of £50 and costs.
