(From our own Correspondent). November 17. There has been great excitement to-day in the commercial world on account of the rumored increase of duty on merchandise. Spirits, tobacco, and tea have been cleared, out of bond, aud there is great anxiety to know the result of the Treasurer's statement to-night. It is believed that spirits will be increased two shillings per gallon, tobacco one shilling per pound, cigars one shilling. Fencing wire twenty shillings per ton, aud a general impost of 15 per cent on some other articles. A young man named Taylor, lately employed in the Treasury Department, committed suicide to-day, by nearly blowing his head oft with. <</ gun.
