CLUTHA RELIEF FUND AND THE MILTON AMATEUR DRAMATIC CLUB.

A meeting of the subscribers and Committeeof the Clutha Floods Belief h" and was held at the Council Chambers, Milkn, on Tuesday evening last, in accordance with an advertisement in our issues of the 11th and Istb inst., to take into consider-* ation the non-payment by the Milton Amateur Dramatic Club, of the proceeds of the entertainment given in November last in aid of the Floods Relief Fund ..The Mayor presided and explained the position of matters: that previous meetings had authorised two written applications to be forwarded to the Secretary of the Club, applying for a statement of receipts and- a cheque for proceeds, but that no answer or explaination whatever had been received in reply. The letters also contained requests for payment of the prciceeds of the Art Union, of Mr Chapman's pictures, also given in aid of the Fund, to which no response was made. After considerable discussion as to the best means of compelling paj ment of the moneys improperly retained, and as it is surmised appropriated to other purposes. It was moved by the Eev. J. Chisholra, and seconded by Mr Hollick, and carried — '' 1 hat this meeting expresses surprise at the want ot courtesy shown by the Secretary of the Milton Dramatic Club, in failing to answer the applications made by the Honorary Secretary of the Clutha Eelief Fund for the proceeds of the entertainment given on behalf of that Fund, and for the purpose of obtaining information resolves to appoint the following gentlemen as a deputation to wait upon the Secretary of the Dramatic Club, viz., the Mayor and Mr J. E. Brown, and further resolve that the same deputation be appointed to apply to the Subcommittee in charge of the Art Union of Mr Chapman's pictures for the amount received from that source." Rev. W. Ronaldson moved, and Mr P. Cunninghame seconded, and it was carried uuanimously — " That as soon as practicable after the deputation has obtained the necessary information, that a meeting of subscribers be called to consider same, and to determine as to further proceedings to be adopted." The meeting then adjourned with an understanding that as little delay as possible should occur in unravelling the mysterious manipulations of the funds so liberally contributed by the public for a charitable purpose., and we wait with some- impatience the ultimate result of the enquiry, and shall watch with interest the steps to be taken to bring the transgressors before a tribunal able to mete out justice.
