The total number of money orders issued during the last quarter was 27,239, of the value of £98.595, against 24,128, of the value of £85,877, issued in corresponding quarter of 1877. The total number of money orders paid during the same peried was 19,733, of the value of £71,518, against 17,440, of the value of £63,969, in 1147. Total amount of deposits for the same periods was £181,840, agoinst £167,364; withdrawals, £192,082, against £151,639. Total imports for 1878, £8,755,663, against £6,973,418 in 1877 ; exports, £6,015,525, against £6,327,472. The amount of imports exceeds that of any previous year. The Custom revenue shows the following advances since 1871. —1n that year they were as follows: Dunedin, £194,522; Wellington, £56,923 ; Lyttelfcon, £l6,74l ; Auckland, £148,403. In 1878 : Dunedin, £371,357 ; Lyttelton, £240,461 ; Auckland, £224,987 ; Wellington. £200,816.
