INTERPROVINCIAL.

(From our own correspondent.) ; Wellington, June 3. In reference to the amount of the three and half mi-ions loan which has been anticipated the ' Post ' to-night says .the guaranteed, debentures to the extent of £500,000 issued by the late Government, and the loan of 1,000,000 obtained from the Banks of New Zealand and New South, Wales on short dated debentures will absorb £1,800,000 out of the total of £3,500,0001 A sum of £30,000 must also be Bet aside to meet provincial liabilities which came to General Government W a legacy from the Provincial Governments. This apparently leaves a balance of only . £1,400,000 to meet the expenditure on Pub- 1 lie Works during the year, but to, this | amount will be added £980,000, the balance remaining in hand on the 30th June, 1877, so that the actual' sum available for public works during the year may be set down at £2,380,000. Of course, as the financial year closes on the"3oth of the present month, and as a number of public works have been sanctioned by Parliament in anticipation of the loan being raised, it follows that a considerable portion . of the; money now made available has been forestalled, and in. point of .fact; spent in * this way. What this may amount to 'cannot be ascertained. * It has been raining continuously for the last four days, and the streets are in a wretched condition: The new reservoir has now, over forty feet of water in it and is still rising.
