Captain Douglas led past the Stand, Contriver being next; the rest pretty well together, and Campahelle last. Captain Douglass continued to lead on the Dunedin side of the course, but when opposite the Stand Endymion mended his pace, and displaced Larrikin and Contriver, and tried to get on equal terms with the Captain; Coming into the straight, Blue Bell and Mountain Maid were called upon, and responded gamely, but but though they succeeded in displacing thoße who held the second and third post tions, they were unable to get on even terms with Captain Douglas, who won easily by two lengths. Time, 2min 36sec. BIHTHDAY HAKDICAP, Of 120 soys. second horse to receive 30 soys. from the stakes. One mile and three-quarters. Nomination, 3 soys. 3^ sots. W. Swanson's gr g Blue Peter, 6 yrs, 7st 41b (J. Allen) 1 K. Eay's b g Bide-a-Wee, aged, Bst 51b (carried Bst 61b) ... (Wattie) 2 J. F. Kitehing'a b c Oberon, 3 yrs, 7st (Webster) 3 - Contriver and Camilla were scratched. Betting : Even money Blue Peter ; 3 to 2 against Bide-a-Wee j 3 to 1 Oberon ; 4 to 1 Exile. Oberon was the last jto get away, but he Boon shot past Exile and Bide-a-Wee, and after a short struggle showed in front of Blue Peter. He, however, did not maintain the premier position long, for coming towards the turn Blue Peter collared him and was again leadine, and was past the Stand first by about half a length. Bide-a-Wee and Exile were several lengths behind. On going round the turn towards Dunedin Bide-a-Wee began to gain on the leaders and soon displaced Oberon, and looked as if he were about to pass Blue Peter, but though he struggled hard to do so during the last half-mile he did not succeed. After a splendid.race down the straight Blue Peter won by a length. Oberon and Exile were completely out of it. Time, 3min. 31sec. HANDICAP TEOTTING BACE. Of 40 sots.
