Speaking of matters political, the 'Post* to-night, says that the total ordinary revenue of the Colony for the year, is estimated to produce £150,00 over the estimate, this will reduce the deficiency of last-year to £90,0(0, against which which will have to be set down a saving of £100,000, arising from departmental reductions and unexpended money voted by the. House for different works. It is understood that after the cloße of the present financial year, the Government propose to. charge the whole cost of administration upon the ordinary revenue of the Colony, instead ofchargiagit to loans as has formerly -been done., The Government contemplate the introduction ' of a system of deferred telegrams at cheap rates, the tariff will probably be at a rate of ten words for sixpence. These messages will be sent by telegram to the peatal town of the district to which they they are directed, and will then be stamped and handed over to the post office for distribution by the letter-carrier at the next delivery. On each message there will be an extra charge of one penny for postage. May 24. The following despatch to the Governor has been published : — " Do wlihg street, 14th February, 1878.— My Lord— l have not failed to notice with the greatest satisfaction the accounts which have reached me chiefly from unofficial sources of the munificence which has been displayed in so many of Her Majesty's Colonial possessions in contributions Which have been made towards the funds for the relief of the sufferers by famine in India.
