Mount Stuart Road Board.

«- The annual monthly meeting of the' the above, was held at Glenore, on the 20th May, 1878. Present— Messrs H. Clark (OhairmaD), J. Scott, W. Miller, J. Adam, W. HodgaoD, Charles Evans, E. Cameron, and J.Clark. The minutes of the previous meeting being read and confirmed, the business was opened by the Chairman, reading the INWAED CORBESFONDENCE. Letter from Tokomairiro Road Board, appointing 2nd May, for the two Committees to meet at .District Road, ne,ar Mr HJ Murray's, for the purpose of deciding the! best method of taking away the dead water, that accumulates in a low lying portion of' the road in winter. - The Clerk stated that he did not receive' the letter till the 3rd, the day after they 1 should have met. Mr Adam proposed, and Mr Cameron' seconded—" That the resolution come to by' the Tokoraairiro Board, at their last meet- 1 1 ing, be agreed to, and the Mount Stuart 1 '. Clark, Chairman, Mount Stuart' Road B^oard. ' Dear Sir, — Will you ftindly instruct Mr' M'Donald (Clerk to the Board), to producej for perusual, at next meeting of the Board, on Monday first (20th inat>, the agreement I entered into . between the Board and Mr Waiter Mzctl!bb. The documents referred to, are as follow: — ' Clarksville, April 23. Mr M'Donald, Sir, — Mr Scott and I have agreed to accept the tender of» Mr Clymer for the repairs to the two bridges. The tender and deposit is herewith returned.^ , You wiil take the necessary steps to' see that the works are properly carried out. — I am, &c, Henry Clark. Report on Culvert jat Mr Thomas Murray's Mill, Glenore. Dear Sir,— l have 'to state that I examined the culvert referred to in your letter of 23rd April last, and found it not quite so bad as Mr Miller or myself anticipated. I, like Mr Miller, was very anxious to see what impression bis thrashing mill would have upon the culvert. I watched the result on the morni ing of the 23rd April, and have to Btate that the unusual weight passing over made no impression on it, but still I have no faith in the present structure. It might give way at anytime after a few wet days, and a good stream of water coming from the mill-wheel. To attempt to spend money in the shape of repairs on the present culvert would be to throw it away, and cripple a large sum that will be required to build a new one. I have, at your request, made up an estimate of probable cost of a new one, which will be found attached to this report.— l have the honour to be, Sir, your obedient servt.,, John M'Donald. Clarksville, April 23, 1878. Mr iM'Donald, Dear Sir,— Enclosed "is a "note from 1 -Mr MiHer. Would you examine the culvert referred to, and see if it is dangerous, and if so, try and make it secure in the meantime, as as small cost as possible. You can report to next meeting of the Board as to the cost of making it permanently safe for traffic— l am, &c., Henrt Clark. Roxburgh Station, Mount Stuart, - - 22ud April. HENRT CLARK, . Chairman Mt. Stuart Road Board. Dear Sir,— l beg leave to call your attention to the dilapidated state of the culvert at or opposite to Mr Murray's mill on the road leading from the Railway Station to my place. It is quite unfit to carry weight, and positively dangerous for a threshing mill to cross it. It may be said that the Board has not yet succeeded in agreeing with Mr Murray abput the deviation of this piece of road through his property, but permit me to obterre that I do not think the Board can.

properly statad aloof and leave this matter unsettled ibdefiaately. . The Board ought to take immediate steps to legalise the road ia question./ The travelling public are using tbe said/piece of road, and if an accident bappent through a detective culvert, I do not think/the Board will be held responsible for damages. — I am, sir, yours very truly, ; Walter Millbb; Milton, April 18th, 1878.
