(Retjteb's SPECIAIi.) Melbourne, May 17. The Cable Conference meetings are expected to close to-morrow. The proceedings will be [published early. It is anticipated that a modification of Colonle Glover's offer will be agreed to. May 18. The cable Conference has beea. concluded. The result includes Glover's propooal lor duplicationvrof the cable between Singapore and Port Darwin, and also a second .cable between Periang and Singapore. The subsidy to be £32,000 annually, paid rateably by the Colonies, according to population Press rates will be reduced one-fourth and Government messages one-half. New Zealand and Tasmania will get no advantage from the reduced cable rates. Nothing was done re the duplication of the 'and line to Port Darwin. Tasmania and Queensland are dissatisfied with the arrangement: Stdxey, May 18. The Governor has received a despatch from the Secretary of State saying the English Government has no intention of proposing to Parliament the annexation of the New Hebrides. The Governor will prorogue Parliament, on Tuesday.
