He said he never saw it as bad as it now was, and before wiuter was over it would be very bad. If people wanted trees planted he would suggest that tbey be allowed to plant them. Cr Hogg remarked that he was under the impression that that work was in contemplation by the Works Committee. He thought tbey were to rake stones from the footpath and put them on the road. He contended that they could not make the place too attractive for visitors. He said it was one of the prettiest little towns in the world, jet they should not neglect its requirements. Cr Cramond would not like to see any undue expense incurred in tree planting and important works neglected, but he did not see what there was to deter them from planting a few trees. Owing to there being only half of the Council present, Councillor Hogg withdrew his motion for the present. Notice of motion* by Cr Cramond— " That this Council instruct the Inspector to have the main road repaired, and also to provide maintenance metal for Hasbro' Road." His Worship stated that he had seen a telegram from Mr Blair stating that the contract from the bridge to the station would be gazetted in a few days. Cr Cramond drew attention to the fact that uo provision had been made for a crossing at the south side of tho Railway Bridge. The embankment was 27 feet high. He moved "that the clerk be instructed to write to Mr Blair asking him if there is any provision for a roadway across the line to Inch ('lutha ferry." — Carried. Cr Hogg spoke of something being done to Hasbro' Road. He spoke of the accident that day. Cr Tosh said as they had done so long the}' might do longer without further expense. Cr Cramond suggested that at least one bluff be cut away aud a wall built with the material. He moved " that tbe Works Committee report upon the probable expense of cutting off the bluff on Hasbro' Road, and building a wall with the material." A discussion then took place as to the desirability of getting something done to the Hasbro' Road before some lives were lost upon it. A special three pence of the proposed rate was suggested by Cr Hogg as a just and equitable way of providing for the work. Here the subject dropped. The Council then adjourned.
