INCH CLUTHA MEETING.

(To the Editor.) Sir, — In reference to the recent meeting of settlers held at Inch Clutha re the maintenance of the Matau Bridge, it is to be regretted that a gentleman who has been a bright aspirant after political honors (though hitherto defeated) should have, at a public meeting of this sort, so prominently charged the members of the Matau Road Board, as adopting mercenary and arbitrary measures in connection with the truat handed over to them by the Government in completing the approaches to the Matau Bridge. The members of the North Matau Subdivision, in the conscientious discharge of the trust committed to them, have always | cordially and heartily co-operated with the members of Inch Clutha Subdivision in carrying out the necessary works in connection j with their subdivision. I presume this hit at the members of the North Matau Subdivision of the Matau Road Board has arisen from jealousy ; probably because the members who constitute the North Matau Subdivision are substantial, persevering, and energetic men, and have carried out the Government trust imposed upon them with honor and integrity. I would recommend to this great Inch Clutha political agitator to retire deeper into his sanctum, and there carry out his cogitations, re-tollage, &c, England, Ireland, and Scotland, with her Majesty's dependencies ; and not point the finger of acorn to gentlemen who are an honor to the district in which they dwell and to the constituency which they represent.— l am, &c, Lsch Clutha.
