London, March 29. The death is announced of Mrs Caroline Ch'sholm, well kaowu in connection with Australian Colonisation. March 31. The annexation of the Transvaal is expected. March 31. - The address in reply to the Sultan's Speech in the Turkish Parliament has been voted by the Chambers. It opposes all claims to territory, and approves the rejection of the proposals of the conference. April 4. A rumor has been circulated to the effect that Prince Bismarck had resigned his position as Chancellor of Germany from overwork ; but the report is semi-offieially denied Bismarck did tender his resignation, but the Emperor refused to accept it, and granted the Prince leave of absence. The Porte treats the Protocol as assailing his dignity. April 6. The Protocol recognises the necessity of European concert ; favors the desire of Montenegro for rectification of frontier, and invites the Porte to reduce the army to a peace footing ; also recognises Turkey's promise of reform, and hopes for its energetic exertions. If the Porte disappoints the other Powers, they will then consider the best means for securing the well-being of Christians and the general peace of Europe. The Porte is displeased with the Protocol, and will probably refuse to disarm. Montenegro maintains her demands, and great uncertainty is still felt regarding the probable course of events.
