April 4 In reply to an article in last night's ' Post ' commenting npon the refusal of the Resident Magistrate at Dunedin to send Alfred Lewis and Jessie Lewis to the Industrial School, it is stated authoritatively that the reason why the magistrates were instructed not to commit any more children for the present to that school was that the master bad reported that the school was fearfully crowded, tbat scarlet fever had made its appearance among the inmates, and that the doctors considered it highly dangerous to admit any more children. At the review yesterday the men's endurance was taxed, and they stood the exertion well. The sham fight was skilfully managed by Captains Heywood and Hannah. Nothing could be more perfect. Every arrangement was excellently carried out. After the review to-day, the companies formed into square, and numerous prizes were presented. Mrs Warren (the Mayoress) handed over the prizes. The Mayor alluded to the general advantages arising from these. meetings, and claims for the Colonial Prize Firing being held here next year.
