OPENING OF THE MATAU BRIDGE.
(To the Editor. ) Sir,— The openirg of the Matau Bridge is now over, yet, as with all other such ceremonies, there have been little shortcomings by the committee in connection therewith. One I would refer to is in the committee sending a canvasser to our town soliciting monetary assistance ; and to those who contributed a guinea, the committee did not deem it prudent to forward a complimentary ticket for the dinner, thus cultivating non-subscribers in the future. The factotum of the committee — who has always been invited, of late at least, to receive a a share of the loaves and fishes of Balclutha festivities — in return forgot to invite our representative, the Mayor. However, one good turn deserves another, and no doubt will be remembered as the self-imposed deputation to Dunedin has been. I am, &c, A Balclutha Eesident.
