COMMANDING OFFICER'S PARADE. The usual monthly .Commanding Officer's Parade of the abo^e^ffirmpany took place on Wednesday evening last. There -were present — Captain Pettit, First aud Second Lieutenant, 3 Sergeants, and 26 rank and file. The Company were exercised in marching and skirmishing drill for over an hour, and they acquitted themselves very creditably indeed. Before dismissing, the Captain informed the Company that be believed Sab-Lieut. Rei 1 would be appointed the first Adjutant for the second Battalion, whose duty it is to go round and inspect the different Companies, and report to the Major commanding. A now member was proposed. COMPANY PRIZE FIRING. Yesterday morning, St. Andrew's day, 17 members of the Company assembled at the butts, to compete for the Company prizes adjourned from the 9th November in consequence of the Waihola Review taking place on that day. The conditions were — 5 shots, at rauges 400, 500, and 600 yards, Wimbledon targets of 18.73. Firing was supposed to start at half-past five o'clock, but it was nearly six before a beginning was made owing to a dense fog. The shooting on the whole is splendid, and if it is only kept up, the Company which wrests the Ladies' Challenge Shield from the Bruce Rifles at the Otago Rifle Association in December, will deserve to win. At the 400 yards range, Private Nutsford took the range prize, 10s, with 18. The 500 yards range prize, 10s, Avas tied for by Sub-Lieutenant Reid, and Privates Grant and Toucch with 17. In firing off the tie, Tough made a bull's eye, and Reid and Grant centres. The 600 yards range prize, 10s, was won by Private Grant with a score of 17, who also takes first prize, £2 10s, with the good score of 51. Sub-Lieutenaut Reid and Private Nutsford tied for second prize, £2, with 49. In firing off, Nutsford missed, aud Reid made a centre. Private Nutsford, third prize, £1 10s ; Captain Pettit, fourth prize, £l ss. Lieutenant Scott and Private Clark tied for fifth prize, 15s ; which was eventually won by Scott. Private Clark sixth, 10s. There were three prizes allotted for nonprizetakers — viz., 15s, 10s, 5s — the stipulation being provided that four competed. Only two put in an appearance, therefore only one prize was allowed, which was won by Private France. This prize will be again competed for tomorrow morning. COLONIAL REPRESENTATIVES. The first firing for Colonial representatives will take place on Tuesday morning next, under the superintendence of Major Stavely. TOWN AUD COUNTRY PRIZE, The subscriptions to this prize are comiug in rapidly. The Captain anticipates that there will be a sum of at least £10 to fire for. The conditions are arranged as follows — To be won three times, twice in succession, at ranges 200 (8-inch bull's-eye), 500, and 600 yards ; 5 shots at each range. THE WAIHOJLA REVIEW. The following letter has been placed at our disposal : — Native Defence Office, Militia and Volunteer Branch, Wellingtou, 28th November, 1876. Sir, — [ have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 13th iust., No. 563, reporting on the review of Volunteers at Waihola, on the 9th inst. The Hon. Native Minister has instructed me to say that be lead your report with much pleasure, and desires me to convey to you, and through you to the Volunteer Force, an expression of the satisfaction entertained by him of the manner in which the arrangements for the review were carried out, and the zeal displayed by the officers, non commissioned officers, and men on that occasion. — 1 am, &c, TV.
