TOKOMAIRIRO
The 'annual ploughing match, held under the auspices of the Tokomairiro Farmers' Club, was held yesterday in Mr Watt's paddock. The day was by no means a pleasant one for outdoor work, and considering the state of the weather a large number mustered to witness the trial of skill amongst our local ploughmen. The rain that had fallen for a day or- two previous to the match had of course the effect of making the ground very soft and sloppy, and the state of the soil would not allow the men to make that neat work so much admired by some. The ploughing, however, was on the whole remarkably good, and the judges had no easy task before them when the time came for awarding the prizes. The double furrow ploughs did excellent work. Pressure on our space prevents us giving a detailed account of the match in our present issue, and we must also hold over our report of the dinner at the Commercial Hotel. Host Atkinson provided a really splendid spread, to which a large number sat down. The following is a list of the prizetakers : Class A. — (Open to all comers.)
