4 MILTON. Tuesday, Junb 29th. (Before J. P. Maitland, Esq., 8.M.) A DISGRACEFUL BOW. James Colvin, James Halliday, Leonard Oook, Richard Fairclough, S. Mountford, W. Bennett, and Joseph Holford, were charged with having been guilty of insulting behaviour in the public streets of Milton, on the night of Saturday, June 19th, and with endeavoring to provoke a breach of the peace. TLe prisoners pleaded . not guilty, and the two first named, who had been arrested at the time, were defended by Mr Donald Reid. The others, who had been proceeded against by summonses, were undefended. ■ A number of witnesses were examined, including Mr Joseph Mackayy who gave the defendants Halliday and Colvin in charge, and it was proved that a disgraceful row had taken place, these two men being the most to blame. Halliday was fined 40s, or seven days' imprisonment; Colvin, Halfprd, Cook, and Fairclough 20s each, or three days' imprisonment, and Bennett and Mountford were discharged. The costs in each case amounted to 9s. The defendants were, allowed until the following Monday to pay their fines. BIRCH V. DUNCAN. This was an action to recover £57 11s, Id upon a bill of exchange. Mr Taylor appeared for the plaintiff. Defendant admitted owing the amount less £15. Judgment was given for £42 11s 3d, with £3 11s costs. Tiiursdat, July Ist. (Before J. P. Maitland, Esq., R.M.) WILSON V. J. AND N. CAMPBELL. This was an action to recover £32 10s 9d on a bill of exchange. Defendants did not appear, and judgment was given for the amount claimed, with costs. TAYLOR V. DUNCAN. In this case defendant sought to recover £32 Is, £25 on a bill of exchange and £7 Is for goods supplied. Mr Reid appeared for plaintiff. Judgment was given for the amount claimed, with costs.
