A Lively Judge.
Eecently, according to the 'Free Press' of Detroit, the magistrate *of the police court " as soon as he had got off his overcoat, looked over the warrants like a waggon running down hill," and then called for the first prisoner. This individual, who we are toM was handed in by a warder named Abijah, chanced to be " a tangle-haired, thin-waisted young man of twenty summers ; and as soon as he was in the dock the following enlivening conversation took place between the delinquent and the embodiment of equity : — " Tou seem to be sad," said the magistrata, as he looked over the desk. " I — l don't feel a bit well," replied the prisoner. " Being drunk last night and lying on the walk for three or four hours didn't help your general health any, did it ?" was tho query of justice. " Oh, sir, I'm sorry, and I want to go right home to Shiawassee County," moaned the man. " Tou gofc drunk — broke a window— ha/i a fight — fell down — bit the officer ; and if you think you can get out of here without a scratch you are as badly deceived as the bear which hugged a stone man," retorted his Honor. " I — l know I shan't live long if I'm sent^to gaol, 1 ' was the reply. " They keep* a lawyer up there to make wills, and they have one of the best sextons in the West," answered the law. " Justice cries for vengeance, and Biljah shall chalk ' sixty days 'on your back. Here's an old jackknife which the police took away from you, and in case of your death it will be duly labelled and sent by express to your friends."
