The demand for labor continues brisk, 25 of the Invercargill passengers found ready employment at from 45s to 52s a week. Mr Adam, writing by the last mail, complains of the misrepresentation of the American Immigration Agent. He instances their pamphlets, which say this Colony forms part of Australia, and is burned up with hot winds. People also are cautioned against cannibalism at Stewart's Island.
Mr Macandrew addresses hia constituents next week.

The Admiralty Court sat to-day. The Strathnaver case was not advanced, owing to counsel for the plaintiff refusing to accept the days named for hearing the evidence. The case will probably not be heard till next year. In the event of plaintiff failing to prove his case, defendants will claim L4O a day demurrage since the arrest of ship. The following tender for the southern contract of Timaru and Waitaki railway has been accepted — George Pratt, Timaru, £18,544. Declined— Joseph Iladfield, Christchurch, L' 20,426 ; David Troudfoot, Dunedin, 1.21,238 ; Walter Fuller, Christchurch, L 22,76 9; John Brogden and Sons, Wellington, £23,770.
Sir James Fergusson will, if he can, arrange to visit Adelaide on his way to Europe.
The Marquis of Normanby is expected to arrive here in a few days after Sir James Fergusson proposes to leave, namely, on the 26th or 27th.
Great distress among the Kingites is reported.
