Garden Calendar for April.

Kitchen Garden. — At this season the work in t his department ought to be pushed on so as to have it well forward by the time the wet weather sets in. Clear away remains of all crops of potatoes, pease, beans cabbages, &c, past use, and manure and dig the ground so as to have it ready for future use. More work can be done in this way just now in a day, when the ground is dry, than can -be done in two after the ground gets soaked and weeds get matted. This is a very good time to sow cabbages and cauliflowers for winter and spring- planting. Lift early potatoes if not already done, and if left in the ground they are apt to take a second growth. Onions may still be sown on very rich, well prepared ground. Sow lettuces to stand over winter. PnuiT Garden. — Get ground prepared for the reception of fruit trees, by manuring and trenching so that by May or June it may be in fine condition through exposure to the weather. Strawberries may now be planted where ground is in readiness, if planted now a fair crop may be had next season. Elower Garden. — Remote things ' done flowering. Propogate by cuttings, geraniums, fuchias, verbenas, petunias, roses, carnations and pinks. Keep grass lawns closely mown, and attend to the trimming of hedges, as nothing looks worse than lawns run to seed or hedges overgrown. We would here remark that in Milton we observe lawns which. Have not Inen mown once during the season,, the edgings untrimmed, and that top where the owners have leisure or profess to have taste.
