PORT MOLYNEUX
(From an occasional correspondent.)
The Readings at this place came off on Tuesday evening last, when there was a very or>nd attendance, and the programme, on the Whole, was n. very good one. Its.-idinrrs were given by Messrs Thomson, Brngh, James '. Ord, Forsyth, Colvin and Shields. Mr Forsyth's reading deserves more than a passim, remark. His piece was well chosen and well read — was, without doubt the best read pi<*ce of tbe evening. Mr Shields also gave us a treat in his reading of Ci Mansie Waugh," in style inferior to none we have heard Songs were given by Messrs Shields, Cockroach, Clark, Tapnell and Anderson, and Miss Hay, and Mr Jackman, and also a trio from Mr and Mrs Jackman and Mr Tapnell, which was a very great treat, and we hope to hear the same party come forward at. other readings and give us such another treat Miss Hay sung very well indeed. Mr Cockroach gave several songs during the evening, and after eaoh he was enthusiastically encored. Messrs Begg and Hay added very much to the harmony of the evening by giving some excellent music on tbe violin.
A meeting was held in the Alexandra Hotel, on Thursday evening, when a new School Committee was elected for the ensuing year.
The miners on the beach are all doing well. Messrs King and party have commenced work on their own (Maori) ground, and, I believe, are likely to make a very good thing of it.
