TN pursuance of " t The Regulation'of ElecJ- tions Act, 1870," I, James Fulton, Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Taieri, do hereby give nptice that, by virtue of a Writ bearing date the 7th day of February, 1871, under the Public Seal of the Colony, an ELECTION will be held for the return of THREE members in the PROVINCIAL COUNCIL of Otago, for the said District ; and that the Nomination of Candidates will take place at the Courthouse, West Taieri, at noon on Monday, the 20th day of March, 1871 ; and that the Poll, if necessary, will be taken on Monday the 27th day of March, 1871. REID, and the other Gentlemen signing the Requisition f*\ ENTLEMEN— In reply to the very flattering requisition sent to me from .the West Taieri Electors, and in answer to Requisitions forwarded to me from East and North Taieri, I consider it to be my duty to place myself in your hands. It certainly is very satisfactory to me that the confidence which existed in my own part of the District still seems to remain between us. I shall take the liberty of addressing the Electors in the various Districts before and after the day of nomination, of which notice will be given. I know there are differences of opinion between myself and the electors, but I do not wish to be returned to the Provincial Council if the views which I hold, and which I will state frankly and fearlessly to you, and if returned advocate in the Council, are not satisfactory to the Taieri Electors.
