A great devastation has been made in that part of the northern district known as Bolangum by the advent of a plague of grasshoppers. These pests were so numerous, says an informant of the 'Avoca Mail,' in whose words the editor says he can place implicit reliance, that it was a positive difficulty to walk along, as in some places the cloud of insects was at least a foot thick. If the inconvenience of hindrance to locomotion were all it would not so much matter, but the grasshoppers attacked large crops of standing ripe corn and ate away the ears, leaving acre upon acre profitless to the cultivator of this spmewhat arid district.
