AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND CUSTOMS BUND.

(• Tasmanian Times ') The New Zealand House of Representatives passed during its last session, on the motion of an independent member, Mr Yogel, a resolution declaring the expediency of empowering- the Government to seek Imperial authority for negotiating reciprocity treaties with the United States and other foreign countries, for the interchange of woof and other products of the contracting- states on terms of mutual advantape; and also authorising- the Government to enter into a correspondence with the Governments of the Australian Colonies with a view to united action in the same direction. An official communication to that effect has, we believe, been received by our Government, suggesting o enerally a conference of New Zealand and Australian delegates in Sydney early next year. We are not prepared to state what course oiu 1 Government is likely to take in the matter ; but we cannot doubt that any policy so exactly in accord with the political traditions and commercial interests of Tasmania would be entertained favourably b} the present Ministry, which has already made the first effort, by the Bill of hist year, to secure inter-colonial free trade. We have heard that Sir .Richard Dry has expressed his intention to propose a change of venue, should a Conference be decided on, and to invite the New Zealand and Continental delegates to meet in Hobart Town. We. shall watch this movement with anxiety, as fraught with the highest interest, not only to Tasmania but to the whole group of Anglo-Austra-lasian States,
