DUNEDIN ELECTION.
The nomination of candidates for the two seats in the Provincial' Council 1 , vacant through the retirement of Messrs Dick and Bastiugs, took place on Friday last.' Mr E. B. Cargili proposed Mr Wm. Mason, Mayor of the city, . Mr Pey man seconded the nomination. Mr Sibba.ld. proposed Mr Thomas Birch,, and Mr D. Jb\ Main seconded the proposal. Mr E. Nathan- proposed Mr B. C. Haggitt. Mr J. H. Harris seconded the nomination; ■ Mr Win. Burns proposed Mr J. ©. S. Grant* and Mr A. Dow seconded the nomination. All the candidates, save Mr Mason, who is in Wellington, attending the Asse»ably, having addressed the electoi's, a show of hands was taken, with the following result — Mason, ]5; Birch, 26; Haggitt,'i4; Graut, 65. Mr Haggitt demanded * poll, which was to take place yesterday. ' ; "" .'" •' •'"■ / [;:'■
