PROSPECTUS Ol' THE 3 wfii $T4Firr"*^* 4Ti» ; Ag J|Ei fa g AND Waitahuna, Waipori, Beaumont, ar\d Teviot Reporter and Advertiser. The Frst dumber of the Tuapeka Recorder ■will be published on or about Friday, 24th c bruary, 1865, the size being similar to the Otago Witness. THE Proprietors feel convinced that the in* , terests of the several Townships, and the extensive Mining Districts comprised within the Tuapeka District, now demand the advocacy of a Local Press, the want of which is recognised by all classes of the community ; we have, therefore, considerable confidence in submitting the claims of our Paper to the attention and extensive patronage of the large population comprised within our proposed field of operations, believing that a well conducted first-class Newspaper, properly advocating the best interests of the Districts, will meet with the encouragement which Hs merits cjeinand,. Arrangements have been completed, which will enable us to present our readers with the current news of the week, Colonial and Provincial, while correspondents have been appointed in the several rising Townships within the District, bo that subjects cf local interest in each, as well as iv Tuapeka, our centre of operations, may always command our best attention. Advantage will also be to taken of the Electric Telegraph, now approaching completion, for the receipt of the latest Home, Colonial, and. Dune in, and Up-country intelligence. It appears to us somewhat surprising, that while several of the newer Gold Fields of the Province 6hould from the period of their discovery have enjoyed the benefit of local News, paper?, the oldest, richest, most settled, and continuously prosperous of all the Gold Fields ol Otago, should hitherto have been debarred t s privilege ; the proximity to Dunedin, and the regular daily communication therewith, may be urged as sufficient reason tor the undertaking not being previously attempted ; still no one will qnestion that the .olaimß of the Miners of the Tuapeka, Waitahuna, Beaumont, and Teviot, | have not received the attention from journals extensively patronised by them which their interests demanded, and hence the absolute necessity of the establishment of a local journal, that will take its stand as tho exponent, advocate, and protector of the residents, in their Mining and Commercial pursuits. Our special attention will ever be deroted to the material advancement of the District, by watching over the disposal of Crown Lands, construction of Roads, Administration of the public monies in the District, needed public improvements, in the management of municipal affairs, proceedings of the district school boards, mining Requirements aad improvements, with the due representation of the miners in the Legislative Councils of the province and the colony, the revision of the entire constuiional policy of the country, &c, Ac, are subjects upon which an enlightenceu criticism will be brought to bear in \lnv " TuAPBKi. Recorder.* In short our object will be to render the "Tuapeka Recorder" in every respect worthy of the District, and in order to carry out project in its entirety, a very considerable expenditure mu,st nepessavily be incurred, so that t;o ensure sueoess liberal support must be ; we are, however, persuaded, that the whole community will fully appreciate our enterprise, and that before many issues have appeared, the " Ttjapeka Recorder" will have established itself as a worthy exponent of public opinion, and becorn. a, longed for and welcome veekly visitor to the home of ey.ery miner and jpeichant in the District. The price of single copies of the *' Tvapeka 1 ' *. will be 6;d, an<l the subscription 25s per annum, payable half-yearly in advance. Advertisements 2s per inch : single insertion 3s per inch. Duly authorised agents will be appoiated in the several Districts for the receipt of Advertisements an,d Subscriptions ; meanwhile, all communicatioAS for the Proprietors or the Slditor may be addressed to the Editor of the « T;u Afeka Recorder," Lawrence, Tuapeka. fcawrence, 16th January, 1565.
