The final 'match for the lliiahine pennant was played on the local green tin's afternoon .between rinks- - representing the Pahiatua and .Dannevirke ; elnb.s. which were represented as follow : Pahiatua.—Mills, Bnrge.ss, Bansom, Hewitt. D.;i.nnevirke.— F-aliey, Druminond. Hawkins, McGiibbon. On the 12th head the scores were: Dannevirke 18, Pahiatua 10.
Mrs Fitaherbert. of New Plymouth, .arrived on a visit to relatives •at Dannevirke this afternoon. Mr A. Irvine, the engine driver at the Tirntu mill, had the misfortune to cut his leg severely with an axe this morning, and medical assistance had to be obtained. As usual, there was a large number of persons on the rollers at the Drill Hall this afternoon. This rink is becoming immensely popular, and those who attended the rink this afternoon spent a most enjoyable time. The rink will be open again this evening,' when wo expect to see an even larger attendance. A euchre'party was given last night at the residence, of Mrs. Hooper, Barraud Street, by the employees of McDowell and Power, to Miss Hannibal, who is shortly to be married to a gentleman at Wellington. The lady received a presentation of a silver hot water jug. The presentation was made on behalf of the employees by Mr. McDowell, junr. The evening was pleasantly spent with music and euchre. The prizes in the latter went to Miss Paviour, Miss Rowe( booby) and Mr. Wills and Mr. llees (booby).
